In 1996, Mehgan pioneered the sport of freediving in the United States by establishing the first U.S. freedive record for both men and women, in the constant weight category.
This significant contribution to the world of diving and exploration earned her a place as one of the original inductees, and the youngest-ever at time of induction, to the Women Divers Hall of Fame, and also as a Fellow in
The Explorers Club.

Kate has so far pedalled a distance greater than twice the world's circumference and achieved four world firsts on her major journeys; through Europe, across Russia, 25,000km through Australia and 22,000km west to east across Africa (from Senegal to Somalia).
She is a fellow of the Royal Geographic Society, a member of The Explorers Club, an Honorary Advisor for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and a Scout Ambassador.
